Designing useful public digital systems

The best information system is rarely the one with the most features. It is the one that makes the next decision clearer.

Public digital systems live in the space between policy and everyday work. A successful system must respect both: the formal process that gives it purpose and the people who must use it under real constraints.

I start by mapping the decisions a person needs to make, the information they need at each step, and the places where the current process loses time or trust. Only then do I choose screens, reports, or technology.

This approach has shaped my work on local government portals, monitoring systems, and assessment tools. Clarity is not just a visual quality; it is an operational advantage.
